Jellyfish Facts

Jellyfish are a very unique type of organism that are not like any others. They are not very violent or aggresive, but some can kill you quicker than you can believe. This is one reason why I like jellyfish so much. It is interesting to me that something so small and calm can kill you so quickly. The way that their body works is quite stunning. They have long tentacles that help them make their way through the vast ocean. Some jellyfish are clear while others can have many different and bright colors. This would be another reason why I like jellyfish. They sort of float through the water almost like they aren't even alive. The lifespan of an average jellyfish is not very long. It is only about three months long. Another neat fact about jellyfish is that they do not have brains. They are primarily made up of a complex nervous system. Jellyfish are very simple, but also very unique and complex. One of my favorite types of jellyfish is the box jellyfish. The box jellyfish is one of the most dangerous types of jellyfish with its powerful venemous sting. If stung by a box jellyfish you will not have much time to live. It can be one of the most terrible pains one would ever had and it only takes about three minutes to go through your entire body. The box jellyfish is not only one of the most dangerous jellyfish, but it has also been called one of the most venomous organisms in the entire world. That would be one thing I would never want to encounter. The way it just floats through the water and is so calm, but can kill you in a small ammount of time. To me that would be pretty scary and make me afraid to be in a body of water with one. Many people believe that applying urine to the sting area will help the sting. I do not believe that this works and definitely wouldn't if you were stung by a box jellyfish. Another fact about jellyfish is that they travel in large groups which scientists call "jellies". While I have talked about how dangerous jellyfish are, some or most of them are practically harmless. Most of the jellyfish you encounter will be completely harmless and you would be able to touch them. There are only a couple species of jellyfish that are extremely dangerous that you should not mess with, but you will rarely come by these types so you will not have to worry. The purpose of this post is to just give you some random facts about jellyfish and to see why I am interested in them. They are quite the unique organism that makes me wonder how many more species are out there that we don't even know about and are just out in the deep abyss of the ocean. Jellyfish are just the coolest and everyone should like them. I love jellyfish.
